What does it mean?

Floor exercises is an intergenerational context programme in which we allow audience participation.

Our themes are closely linked to our performances. Nevertheless, FLOATING is a stand-alone activity. On this evening, we invite young and old to the Kameleonzaal in Parktheater, to become sparring partners and to engage in discussion with each other on the basis of a short performance. We will conclude with an on-the-spot written reflection on the evening.

In Floor exercises #3, we collaborate with theatre maker and performance programmer Marieke Reijnen.

I am Marieke Reijnen, theatre maker and performance programmer of Murf/Murw Festival. After graduating from the FHK in Tilburg, I immersed myself in making visual, physical performances. I often combine horror elements with mime and performance. My engine turns on by making images, text is often an afterthought.

My graduation performance was set in and around the abandoned stables of an old farmhouse, and for Over het IJ Festival I created 'Roadkill' with Luka Krijbolder. A performance in which there is a smoking car along the canal, and a character balancing between victim and murderer. Should you help her, or is it better to run away?

For Floor Exercises, I want to explore the fact of the 'thriller/horror film' within the setting of a theatre. When is something scary? How can you translate the experience of a horror film to the theatre? Why do people voluntarily step into a metre-high rollercoaster or visit an infamous haunted house? How does it feel to let go of control and surrender to the situation?
